“NORTH CIRCULAR” is our tribute to London’s Ace Cafe, to the wild rides of the Rockers, and to that timeless Rock ’n’ Roll spirit that never leaves us.
The North Circular was the battleground — where true Café Racers raced to become the undisputed ace.
After the bombings of World War II, the Ace Cafe was rebuilt in 1949 (which is why we printed London 1949 on the T-shirt), and went on to become one of the most iconic venues in the world.
Located on the North Circular, it rose to fame during the golden era of the 1950s and 1960s, a legendary time for Rockers and real Café Racers.
Open 24 hours a day, it became the hangout for a generation of youth who gathered there with their motorcycles, challenging each other to increasingly dangerous races.
The North Circular became the stage for countless illegal races.
In the 1960s, with the rise of the Beat Generation, came the legendary clashes between Rockers and Mods — immortalized in the film Quadrophenia.
The Ace Cafe closed its doors in 1969, but was completely revived and reopened in 1997 — reborn, just like the spirit it represents.
